| | annoyed | ] | Thanks to the actions of two callcentre mooks at Virgin Media, I'm now having to write a letter of complaint. Until the letter is sorted out, and even then only if they judge in my favour (which the "senior customer service agent" I spoke to this morning says is 'unlikely' because I share a flat and they don't record calls), I am £64 out of pocket.
I really can't afford that this month. :( |

I figured I'd do the LRP meme thing Andy style. You can guess the character from the answers. Although sadly far, far too many of the questions don't actually apply to most characters, so it may be misleading.
( Who lives in a head like this? ) |

| Day One |
[Aug. 20th, 2009|09:32 pm] |
While bouncing around the 'net, I happened upon this.
Now, I've not seen anyone mention Day One as yet (it looks cool), but the interesting part is how I got to it. It's insidious and viral, and someone, somewhere is very clever.
I'd followed a link on Facebook to someone having a go at the technology design in Star Wars. The comments were quite interesting, and about halfway down someone mentions that it was just a victim of the popular designs of the times, in the late 70s & early 80s, 'just like Buck Rogers and Sargasso Planet'.
Sargasso Planet? Never heard of it. Google.
While there I find a couple of "fan" sites, one with a timer that's currently at 193 days & change, counting down. The guy is trying to sell "original action figure prototypes" from 'Sargasso Planet' for a great deal of money.
So I look a little further. The "fan" seems to be a character in Day One, and the whole thing is a viral marketing ploy, though I'm not quite sure where it's going yet. But it was subtle, and all began with a throwaway comment in a response to a geeky blog. I'm quietly impressed. |

Spent the evening watching trailers rather than doing important things, because I can't get my head in the right place at the moment. Not happy with that, but I found some fun things.
As seen a while ago, and mentioned recently by Jamie, District 9 looks like interesting and intelligent sci-fi fare. http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/district9/
For some reason I found the short non-trailer for Extract very funny. Perhaps it's seeing Ben Affleck playing against type. http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/extract/
Burton + Alice In Wonderland + Disney's budget + Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter = http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/aliceinwonderland/
Graverobbers discover the world of the undead, in a comedy way, with Hellboy and a Hobbit. http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/isellthedead/
I read about Funny People a while ago, and really liked what I saw. Now there's a trailer, which is basically just Judd Apatow telling you what happens in his movie. I want to go see it a lot. http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/funnypeople/
Wait - this is a PG-13? What the hell? The trailer disturbed the crap out of me. Pandemic / human reaction thingy, which doesn't look too bad. http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount_vantage/carriers/hd/
Oh, I can't help it. I want to go and see this because the trailer made me smile. http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/allaboutsteve/
After watching the trailer, I'm assuming this title was a typo, and they meant to hit "S" rather than "W" on the keyboard. http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/whiteout/
Interesting multi-director / massive ensemble cast piece about love in New York. http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/newyorkiloveyou/
This trailer is *terrible*, but other clips I've seen of Jennifer's Body were very funny, so don't let it fool you. It's the woman who wrote Juno, doing a film about demonic possession & high school. http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/jennifersbody/
Finally, possibly the most interesting trailer of the night is Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones. Even if it does have a toe-curlingly uncomfortable "exclusive introduction" from PJ at the start. http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/thelovelybones/hd/
In other news, I stumbled while getting pizza out of the oven and have two large burns on my arm. Hate CFS. |

While my head is in a state at the moment as I try to get things figured out with work, I do also need to ask some quick advice about phones.
This week, T-Mobile has finally seen fit to allow me to upgrade my phone, and I have some birthday money to spend. Not a lot, but still.
It's come at a handy time, since my beloved Sony Ericsson W850i has finally bought the dust this week - four keys have stopped working, including critical navigation and the space bar key. I can still vaguely text people by using full stops, kinda like a 21st century telegram, but can't use the media functions or crucially hang up a call / turn my alarm off.
So, I have some choices, and need some advice. While I am a lover of SE Walkman phones, I'm tired of their proprietary headphone connector, because they're not the most secure thing in the world, and prone to popping out if my phone is in my pocket. So, I've looked at my options, and they are...
1) The Samsung Pixon M8800.
2) The Nokia 5800.
3) The LG Arena KM900.
All three phones have their plus points, with possibly the LG one coming out on top - but I've never used an LG or Samsung phone before, so am a bit in the dark.
Or I could play it safe with the Sony Ericsson W705, and have a bit of birthday cash left over too. I know it's not anywhere like as flash, and will have the usual proprietary connector issues, but I live with that now and I do fine.
But could I do more? That's the question.
EDIT - I *might* be able to stretch for the Sony Ericsson W995, but it's a little more than I was looking to pay (coming in at just over twice the price of the others on the upgrade) - however it's my usual brand, and it's even got a proper headphone jack...
Oh. It seems the HTC G2 is the same price as the W995. But I'm not currently on a web & walk thingy, so I wonder why it's being offered as an upgrade? |

Birthday stuff cancelled, due to various factors.
I shall figure out something else, or a few small something elses, over the next 10 days or so. |

| | tired | ] | Facebook is being poop, and has refused for two days to let me make an event. So, I've pretty much been unable to get people's comments on when they're actually available to go out to the cinema for Le Potter before my birthday, and am now having to wing it.
I was going to list the 17:20 / 18:00 / 18:40 / 19:20 options for Didsbury Cineworld on Sunday afternoon / early evening and see which is the best option for people, and have people either come around to mine beforehand or meet up at the cinema an hour or so before whichever showing to ensure we can get tickets.
But, since Facebook is poop, I'm having to do it here, text people and hope it gets seen! So pass this on if you think you're coming, and you know that other people wanted to come. |

Whenever I'm asked in future "where were you when you heard that Michael Jackson died?", I'll have to respond with "on the toilet".
That'll teach me to go with the door open when the flat is empty for a weekend. |
